AVIVA Double Reed Ensemble

AVIVA Double Reed Ensemble was founded in 2015  in the Hudson Valley region of NY. Originally, we formed as an oboe and bassoon duet consisting of Allison Rubin (oboe/oboe d'amore) and  Cornelia McGiver (bassoon).  In 2016 we expanded to become a Double Reed Quartet: Allison Rubin (oboe), Joel Evans (oboe), Cornelia McGiver (bassoon), Melissa Brown (bassoon).
We have expanded further to a collective of professional double reed specialists in the Hudson Valley region so that we can perform, educate and inspire youth in the community.  Our performers currently include Ann Churukian, Danielle Hoke, Joel Evans and  Allison Rubin in the oboe family. Our bassoonists include William Beecher, Melissa Brown, W. John Knight, Cornelia McGiver and Elisabeth Romano. We have enlarged the roster of musicians and the instrumentation has grown as well.  Instrumentation includes oboe, oboe d’amore, english horn, musette, bass oboe, bassoon, and contra bassoon.
Members of AVIVA Double Reed Ensemble are graduates of The Juilliard School, Yale School of Music, Columbia University, Oberlin, Northwestern University, Bard, St. Rose, SUNY Potsdam, University of Maine, City University of New York, Southern Methodist University, Western Connecticut State University, SUNY New Paltz, Hofstra University, Eastman School of Music and Stony Brook University.

Our musicians are affiliated with several prestigious colleges, institutions and ensembles including: Vassar, Yale University, SUNY New Paltz, New Haven Symphony, Dutchess Community College, Hartwick College, Bard, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, West Point Band, Greater Newburgh Symphony, Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra, Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, Pone Ensemble, Bach Festival, ESYO and Albany Symphony.
